Scotty_K_Headshot

Hey there! I’m a Data Scientist in IBM's Marketing Experience Engine. My team exists to understand and predict client intent, striving to connect the Big Blue's hybrid cloud and AI solutions with organizations buliding a better tomorrow.

My role at IBM plucked me from the mountains of the American West and dropped me in what I have come to see as the beating heart of the world: New York City. It is my privilege to live among a tradition of diversity and excellence that inspires me daily.

I love pushing the limits of human performance. It's why I developed a passion for running that led to collegiate athletics, but it's also led me to discover the incredible potential at the nexus of technology, design, and business. The future is ours to create, and we're limited only by our imaginations.

    IBM

      data scientist (march 2022-present)

My continuing career at IBM has evolved from individual contributor to project lead for the Sales Intelligence team. Following a successful first year of the Marketing Qualified Intelligence program, our continuing efforts employ data science to build more accurate and actionable models that predict client intent in service of our professional sales teams. As team lead, I coordinate the design and continuous delivery of new capabilities that bridge the gap between sales and marketing.

    Responsibilities and accomplishments include:

    - Project management of five functional reports in domestic and international markets, including training on SQL, data structures, and presentation style

    - Employment of data science optimization for account-level patterns using models like random forest

    - Integration of business logic to create easy-to-understand capabilities that leverage existing systems like Slack and Salesforce (winners of 2022 and 2023 SAMMY awards)

    - Migration of production-level workloads from on-premise infrastructure to next-gen tooling on cloud using Kubernetes

    - Cross-team enablement and support on frontend capabilities and backend technical code development

      marketing analyst (february 2021-february 2022)

The mission of the Sales Intelligence team is to build the future of IBM by uncovering what the marketplace values during a global transformation to hybrid cloud and AI ubiquity. As the subject matter expert for the Marketing Qualified Intelligence project, I used marketing data to uncover patterns of client interest that signal purchase intent. These insights are packaged and delivered to our team of B2B sellers using a proprietary intelligence platform, and in 2021 7X-ed predicted deal value and were worth $1 billion in incremental pipeline creation.

    Day-to-day specialties included:

    - Digital interaction to win revenue journey mapping and visualization using SQL and Tableau

    - Predictive modeling for account-based pipeline revenue growth in key offerings surrounding digital transformation

    - Seller performance analysis for the ongoing refinement of our predictive model using statistics and data science

    - Executive stakeholder management and B2B seller enablement for the optimal evangelization, consumption, and use of marketing insights

    - Marketing-wide upskilling to increase data literacy and focus on data as the heart of our strategy

      marketing professional intern (june 2020-present)

For my senior internship,I was proud to join the ranks of the Big Blue in Cambridge, Massachusettes. My work was performed 100% remotely due to COVID-19, but 109 years of innovation at IBM prepared us to work effectively across geographies and time zones during the pandemic. As part of the summer internship program, I worked with the Enterprise Security marketing team to manage our digital properties, including the buildout of the Cloud Pak for Security property buildout, which was our newest product and the future of IBM Security.

    Some of my work included, but is not limited to;

    - Media spend optimization for a 50% reduction in budget

    - Conversion rate optimization

    - Impression to pipeline digital journey mapping

    - Multivariate testing

    - Dynamic content targeting by visitor persona

    DirectScale (enterprise SaaS provider)

      product marketing intern (june 2019-present)

As a summer intern, I became the product marketing lead during a messaging refresh and transition to a stratified SaaS model. I led a collaborative effort between the sales, product, client success, and support teams to determine the buyer and user personas that allowed me to segment the product, ultimately meeting the needs of startup to enterprise level corporations in an industry typically starved of adequate technology.

Deliverables I made included: stratified tiers with supporting sales collateral, a complete website redesign, a refreshed messaging guide, and ongoing support to content creation for blogs and nurture campaigns, social media, and product help documentation. At the end of the summer, I accepted a promotion and am continuing my cross-functional role to support our company's growth and vision.

During my first three months, my efforts

    - Generated 301 B2B sales leads

    - Increased global site rank by 700,000 places

    - Increased web engagement by 170%

    - Increased time on site by 138%

    - Decreased bounce rate by 70%

I was so grateful to continue working with the team at DirectScale while I finished my undergraduate degree. As our 2020 strategic vision became reality, new clients, continuous product innovation, and growing strategic partnerships transformed not only DirectScale, but our entire industry. My focus as an employee supported content production and marketing strategy with an emphasis in digital analytics.
